Thieves Household Cleaner

This cleaner concentrate can be diluted for use on every surface of your house. Some of its most favorite uses and dilutions are:

  • All-purpose cleaner: Combine 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner and 2–3 cups water

  • Degreaser: Combine 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner and 2 cups water. For heavy cleaning, use half or quarter the amount of water. If necessary, use a cloth to apply Thieves Household Cleaner undiluted. After cleaning, wipe the area with a cloth dampened with water.

  • Glass and mirror cleaner: Combine 1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner, 5 drops Citrus Fresh™ essential oil blend, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, and 3 cups water

Laundry

Throw out those dryer sheets!!

Dryer sheets are full of nasty chemicals and artificial fragrances that are harmful to your respiratory system and your skin! Wool dryer balls are the best alternative. If you like an additional scent, add a few drops of Essential Oils to the balls before running the dryer. Give the oils a few minutes to soak in before adding to the dryer. A few tips for use… only dry your clothes on Medium heat, the high heat settings tend to create lots of static. And try to dry for the shortest time needed. It will not only save on your energy bill, it will help lengthen the life of your clothes. These are a great option: Smart Sheep Wool Dryer Balls.

Kitchen Clean-up

Fridge Deodorizer

2 ½ cups baking soda

½-1 cup water, add slowly 15 drops of Purification essential oil Combine baking soda and essential oils thoroughly then add water just a little at a time until it resembles crumbly, wet sand.

Press into molds, that hold about a quarter to half a cup in volume. Hand soap silicone molds are a great option. You can make them whatever shape or size you want, but this size I think is perfect for the job and will last a good month.

Remove from mold and let harden (about 48 hours) before popping them into the back of the fridge. Store the others in a mason jar for the future and just swap out when you want a stronger scent, about once a month.

Other yummy fridge scents: Lemon-Peppermint-Lavender, Stress Away, OrangeLavender, Tangerine-Juniper

Candle Swap

If you must have the glow of a candle, use the battery operated kind, but for scent use essential oils in a diffuser. Not only will you be removing the toxins that come along with burning a candle, but you’ll actually be adding oils to the air that may improve your health, mood, etc.. And the scent combinations are endless!

A few easy choices: x 2-3 drops YL Peppermint and 2-3 drops citrus (such as Lemon, Orange, or Tangerine) provides a clean and refreshing scent x 2-3 drops YL Thieves smells like baking, and, as you know by now, helps kill the germs in your house.

You can also add a few drops of a citrus oil, for a twist. Orange is a nice choice to accompany Thieves. x 2-3 drops YL Stress Away smells like a beach vacation, and Lime is a great addition to Stress Away for a little something extra!

Bathroom Basics

You Can Even Make a Bug Repellent

10 drops of YL Peppermint essential oil

10 drops of YL Thieves essential oil

4 oz. witch hazel Fill the rest with water

(Outdoor Bug Spray, continued) Combine all ingredients in an 8-oz. glass spray bottle, or, double the ingredients in a 16-oz. bottle. Shake and apply often. Additional suggestions for the bug spray are to transfer some to a 2-oz. travel glass container for purses or diaper bags. Also, in heavy mosquito populated areas a drop of purification applied to each foot along with the spray can be helpful.

Parting Thoughts:

Glass is always the best options for storage of products containing essential oils. This is particularly true when using citrus oils. Amazon, Target, and even the Dollar Store are great sources to purchase containers. You’ll be surprised that the Dollar Store sells stainless steel spray bottles, glass jars, and other containers to make non-toxic cleaning easy. Many of the ingredients listed in the recipes here are common, but if you don’t have them already usually grocery stores, Target or Amazon will carry them. *How To:

A carrier oil is a vegetable oil—such as fractionated coconut oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, fractionated shea butter, vitamin E oil, olive oil, or grapeseed oil—that can be used to dilute essential oils. Young Living’s V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex is an excellent carrier oil for all applications.

Carrier oils ensure that essential oils applied topically are comfortable to the skin. Dilution with a carrier oil does not dilute the effect of the essential oil. In fact, it prevents waste due to excessive application. Look for dilution ratios on Young Living essential oil bottles.

Vegetable shortening, butter, margarine, or petroleum derivatives (such as mineral oil, baby oil, and petroleum jelly) should never be used as carrier oils.
